Job Title: Victim Advocate (Lawrence County)
Reports to: Victim Advocacy Coordinator
Provide legal advocacy and referrals primarily to clients within the six county catchment areas.
- Attend court primarily in Lawrence County where domestic violence cases are noted on the docket.
- Accompany clients to court-related proceedings as requested.
- Utilize empowerment and voluntary services models when assisting clients.
- Provide safety planning and Victim’s Compensation information to all clients.
- Provide transportation for shelter clients to court as needed.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with prosecutors, judges, and court personnel.
- Provide coverage to any courts in the six county catchment area as needed.
- Provide relevant resource information including helpline cards and brochures.
- Make referrals for victims of abuse to appropriate agency and community resources (e.g., support group, help line, DHR).
Coordinate and Facilitating Support Groups
- Facilitate at least 1 groups a month or as needed within the catchment area
- Provide back-up facilitation as needed.
- Create and update curriculum as needed.
- Coordinate locations, times, substitute facilitators, childcare, and materials needed.
- Distribute information about group services within Lawrence County
- Collect and record attendance (weekly) and required measurement data (monthly)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes Required
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of domestic violence
- Ability and willingness to facilitate support groups
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills Typing and data entry skills
- Ability to work as a team member and also independently
- Ability to adapt easily to changes in daily schedule
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships throughout several communities
- Ability to multitask
- Willingness to work some nights and weekend hours
- Willingness to travel throughout service area
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Vehicle, reliable transportation, insurance and valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office, digital database system, Windows 10 and above with accuracy.
- Physically capable of doing general office work.
