Summer School Counselor- Summer 2026 [Current Employees Only]

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Plan, implement, and evaluate a summer program of guidance and counseling services based on the defined needs of the population served.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • Master's Degree
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate Valid School Counselor Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of counseling procedures/techniques
  • Knowledge of family and peer group dynamics
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with assigned grade level students preferred
  • Experience in a digital environment preferred

Minimum Experience

  • Three (3) years of teaching experience

Major Responsibilities And Duties

  • PLANS, IMPLEMENTS, AND EVALUATES A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM OF GUIDANCE, INCLUDING THE DELIVERY OF SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LESSONS
  • 1. Uses a planning process to define needs, priorities, and program objectives.
  • 2. Implements a comprehensive and balanced program.
  • 3. Evaluates the effectiveness of individual activities and the over-all program in meeting desired student outcomes
  • ASSISTS TEACHERS IN THE TEACHING OF GUIDANCE RELATED CURRICULUM
  • Consults with the summer school facilitator and teachers regarding the needs of the students assigned to each digital classroom.
  • Supports teachers in ways to embed SEL into the content
  • USES ACCEPTED THEORIES AND TECHNIQUES APPROPRIATE TO SCHOOL COUNSELING.
  • Uses accepted theories.
  • Uses effective techniques.
  • CONSULTS WITH PARENTS, TEACHERS, SUMMER SCHOOL FACILITATOR AND OTHER RELEVANT INDIVIDUALS TO ENHANCE THEIR WORK WITH STUDENTS
  • Provides professional expertise collaboratively.
  • Interprets information and ideas effectively.
  • Advocates for students.
  • ADHERES TO ETHICAL AND LEGAL STANDARDS
  • Observes ethical standards of Texas and the American School Counselor Association.
  • Observes relevant legal standards.
  • Selects counselor interventions appropriate to students' issues and circumstances.
  • Creates an atmosphere in which confidence, understanding, and respect result in a helping relationship.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with other counselors.
  • Maintains professional records.
  • Respects the integrity of the student.

Working Conditions

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); flexibility; ability to manage simultaneous demands from a variety of sources; ability to manage crisis situations that impact individuals as well as large groups; interpret policy, procedures, and data; compile and coordinate student data; coordinate district-wide and campus-level functions; maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; lifting and carrying of moderately heavy boxes of testing materials.

Safety: Perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner. Observe all safety precautions.
