Hours: 40 hours per week with work schedule option and occasional weekend shifts
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or 8:30 am to 5:00 pm OR
- Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am to 6:30 pm (9 hours) or Tuesday - Friday, 8:00 am to 6:30 pm
Pay Rate: $28.85 to $29.13 per hour
Duration: 3 months, depending on program needs
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field with at least 1 year of experience in related field strongly preferred or High School diploma with minimum of 3+ years of related experience required
As a Substance Use Counselor, you will:
- Provide crisis intervention, case management and rehabilitative counseling services and provides and/or coordinates substance abuse assessment, treatment planning, and service delivery tailored to the individual needs of the clients served
- Provide individual and group substance abuse counseling
- Assist in developing and designing curriculum and facilitates co-occurring disorders groups
- Facilitate substance abuse groups and networks with community substance treatment providers
- Develop and maintain client service plans that address the needs of each individual served in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
- Provide cross-training for the rest of the team to deal effectively with substance abuse issues and optimize collaboration and support
- Services are provided in the clients' homes as well as in community-based sites
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
- Bilingual Spanish preferred, but not required
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office
- A valid California driver’s license in good standing, personal vehicle, proof of insurance and eligibility to be an approved CRF driver is required to fulfill the essential functions of this position
- Able to pass criminal/background clearance

Our Intensive Mobile Psychosocial Assertive Community Treatment programs (Downtown IMPACT, IMPACT, Senior IMPACT and South Bay IMPACT) provide intensive, community-based case management services for homeless adults throughout San Diego County. We deliver fully-integrated services to clients diagnosed with a serious mental illness, as well as individuals with co-occurring, mental health, and substance disorders.
Our programs utilizes the evidence-based practice of Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) to support our clients in the higher level of community care and to assist them in reaching their goals and living a life that is not dominated by mental illness.
