We will not consider a candidate without extensive experience in both professional dog handling and management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Checks dogs in and out.
  • Answers phones.
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies as needed.
  • Prepares weekly staff schedule.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to all employees.
  • Communicates to maintenance staff of any repairs needed.
  • Prepares and coordinates all accident reports and worker's compensation reports.
  • Maintain full-time availability, including weekends and holidays, and be prepared to respond immediately to call-outs or scheduling errors.
  • Be on-call to assist in the case of medical emergencies or natural disasters, ensuring the safety and well-being of all animals and staff.
  • Commit to working overtime hours as necessary during periods of staff shortages or high demand.
  • Develop and implement animal care protocols to maintain health and safety standards.

This position is responsible for overall management of the day-to-day operations of running a busy dog ranch including office administration, staff recruitment and inventory control, resolving staff and client issues, payroll, accounting, and scheduling.

  • Supervise staff: Manage up to 16 employees and subordinates, working in a team or individually, to maximise their performance and contribution. Monitor and measure how an employee undertakes their responsibilities and how well these activities are executed. Identify areas for improvement and make suggestions to achieve this. Lead a group of people to help them achieve goals and maintain an effective working relationship among staff.
  • Follow verbal instructions: Have the ability to follow spoken instructions received from colleagues. Strive to understand and clarify what is being requested.
  • Monitor dog behavior: Monitor animals’ physical condition and behavior and report any concerns or unexpected changes, including signs of health or ill-health, appearance, condition of the animals' accommodation, intake of food and water and environmental conditions.
  • Instruct on animal care: Provide employees in animal care with information on how to treat the animal, the animals eating habits, nutrition and medical condition and needs.
  • Coordinate with veterinary professionals for health checks and emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health, behavior, and care activities.
  • Engage with pet owners to provide updates on their pets' well-being and address any concerns right away.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the kennel facility.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of animal handling, restraint techniques, and general care practices.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to train and motivate staff effectively.
  • Is consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; Arrives at meeting and appointments on time.
  • Compassionate approach to animal welfare with a strong commitment to high-quality care.
  • Basic understanding of veterinary procedures is beneficial but not required.
  • Proven management experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keen attention to detail and a deep understanding of dog behavior.
  • Full-time availability, with flexibility to handle emergency situations promptly and efficiently.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequently required to stand
  • Frequently required to walk
  • Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
  • The employee must occasionally lift and /or move more than 50 pounds.
  • Handling large dogs on leash
  • In the event of a dog fight, all employees must be able to run quickly to the dogs involved and use proper and safe techniques to break up the fight.
  • While performing duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Pay: From $27.00 per hour
