Mobile Crisis Counselor
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly responsive Mobile Crisis Counselor to provide immediate, community-based mental health crisis intervention services. This role serves children, adolescents, and adults experiencing behavioral health emergencies and emotional distress in real-time community settings.
The Mobile Crisis Counselor responds to crisis calls, conducts on-site assessments, stabilizes individuals in crisis, and connects them to appropriate levels of care. This position plays a critical role in ensuring safety, reducing unnecessary hospitalizations, and promoting recovery through evidence-based, person-centered crisis services. This is a paid position offering meaningful, hands-on impact in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to Mobile Crisis calls and deploy to community locations including homes, schools, shelters, and public settings.
- Conduct comprehensive crisis assessments, including risk of harm to self or others, mental status, psychosocial factors, and immediate needs.
- Utilize evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions to de-escalate crises and stabilize individuals in distress.
- Develop and implement individualized crisis intervention and safety plans in collaboration with the individual and support system.
- Provide short-term, solution-focused counseling and emotional support during acute crisis situations.
- Serve individuals with complex needs, including those experiencing severe mental illness, substance use concerns, grief, PTSD, developmental disabilities, or autism spectrum disorder.
- Coordinate with hospitals, CSBs, emergency services, case management teams, and community providers to ensure appropriate referrals and continuity of care.
- Determine when higher levels of care are necessary and facilitate referrals for inpatient, residential, or emergency services when clinically indicated.
- Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation in compliance with HIPAA requirements.
- Maintain professionalism and clinical judgment while managing multiple cases in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in mobile crisis response, behavioral health, mental health counseling, or acute care settings.
- Strong understanding of crisis intervention models, suicide risk assessment, and de-escalation techniques.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices including CBT, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and brief crisis counseling.
- Ability to work effectively with children, families, and adults from diverse backgrounds and clinical presentations.
- Comfort working with individuals experiencing severe emotional distress, trauma, or behavioral dysregulation.
- Strong clinical documentation skills with familiarity in ICD-10 diagnosis coding and electronic health records.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
