Title: Student Care Counselor
Reports to: Lower School Principal
Work Year: 11 months
Position Focus
The Lower School Guidance Counselor at Cambridge Christian School provides academic, emotional, social, and spiritual support to students in grades K-6, fostering their growth in a Christ-centered environment. This individual works collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators to promote student well-being and personal development, aligning all counseling practices with biblical principles.
Spiritual
- Seek to role model in attitude, speech, and action a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- Motivate others to accept God’s gift of salvation and grow in their faith.
- Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff and administration.
- Lead others to a realization of their worth in Christ and cultivate their growth in Christ-like character.
- Subscribe to and promote the statement of faith.
- All staff are ministers of Christ.
Spiritual & Character Development:
- Model Christ-like behavior in interactions with students, staff, and families.
- Integrate biblical principles into counseling and conflict resolution.
- Support students in developing Christian character, moral decision-making, and strong faith foundations.
- Provide individual and small-group counseling for students facing academic, social, emotional or behavioral challenges.
- Assist students in developing coping strategies, social skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Address bullying, peer conflicts, and classroom behavior concerns from a biblical perspective.
- Offer crisis intervention and emotional support when needed.
- Collaborate with teachers, coaches, and administration to identify student needs, develop interventions, set goals, and support diverse learners.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student concerns and progress.
- Provide resources and guidance to families on parenting, discipline, and emotional well-being.
- Conduct workshops or training for staff on child development, mental health, and classroom management from a Kingdom perspective.
- Develop and implement regular classroom lessons to support students and teachers.
- Assist in creating a nurturing and inclusive school culture.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow ethical guidelines in counseling.
- Keep records of student progress and interventions.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
- State certification/licensure (if required).
- Experience in school counseling or a related field, preferably in a Christian education setting.
- Strong knowledge of child development, counseling techniques, and faith-based guidance approaches.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with children from diverse backgrounds and needs.
- A committed Christian with a deep faith and alignment with Cambridge Christian School’s mission and values.
