Position Title: Middle College Counselor
Location: Monroe County Middle College

Schedule: 7:25 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Monday – Friday
Work schedule based on district calendar

Job Summary:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential Duties:
- Guide and support students with dual enrollment, scheduling, college course selection, and the development of 5 Year plans.
- Assist students with college and career planning.
- Plan “Town Hall Meetings” with each grade regularly throughout the school year.
- Be familiar with college credits, transferability, transferring, etc., to support students with their specific post-secondary goals
- Keep current with changes in high school graduation requirements
- Assist students with the completion of college admissions applications and FAFSA applications.
- Help organize post-secondary visits and college and career focused events.
- Assist with Capstone projects for students.
- Work with students who have attendance, behavior, and/or academic concerns.
- Assist with IEPs and 504 Plans.
- Consult and coordinate with parents, teachers, administration and local agencies which may provide support to students and their families.
- Provide individual and group counseling services to assist students.
- Assist in overall school operation with an emphasis on student programming.
- Help plan school-wide events.
- Help coordinate standardized testing, MME (SAT, WIN, M-STEP) etc.
- Assist in completion of required state reports.
- Build relationships with college personnel, counselors, professors, etc.
- Maintain professional skills and provide educational leadership for program staff.
- Maintain regular, predictable attendance.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with co-workers effectively and professionally.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation necessary for duties.
- Adhere to MCISD Guidelines and Policies.
- Follow work rules.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal, Monroe County Middle College.
Education:
- Master’s Degree from an approved program in school counseling.
- Valid Secondary Michigan certificate with School Counselor Endorsement (NT) or Michigan School Guidance Counselor License.
Experience:
- Three years’ experience in working with secondary students is required.
SKILLS/OTHER:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents and community.
- Working knowledge of local community needs and resources.
- Excellent oral and written skills. Demonstrated organizational skills.
