Horizons Youth Services at Blue Ridge Job Corps Center provides innovative, quality educational and job training programs to enable young people to succeed in today’s competitive job market and keep pace with the ever-changing dynamics of our worldwide economy.

We are seeking a Counselor to support our students as described below:

Job Duties:

Responsible for delivering counseling services to assigned residential and non-residential students focused on personal and social development, career employment, and behavior. Provides individual and group counseling and crisis intervention to all students.

  • Provides ongoing structured, scheduled, and documented individual social development, adjustment, career, and personal counseling weekly
  • Identifies students who need more intensive services and referral to such services, ensuring intervention, implementation, and documentation of strategies to address personal issues, including mental health, medical issues, and English Language Learners.
  • Conducts Career Management Team meetings
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate pre-arrival and departure activities to engage students and develop initial center and post-center plans and goals.

Schedule: Ability to periodically be on-call, work weekends and respond to issues/emergencies at the center. Scheduled to work evening hours and periodic weekends and ability to travel locally periodically.

Experience: One year of experience in counseling or related field.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited College or University – minimum of 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid State Drivers’ License.
