Job Summary/Duties

Performs needed psychiatric assessments, and provides ongoing medication management services for referred developmentally disabled patients with mental health disorders. Be eligible for MediCal/Medicare certification. Authorized to prescribe controlled substances.

Principle Responsibilities

The following are the essential functions of the position. Contracted doctors are responsible for carrying out these functions:

  • Assumes psychiatric assessments/evaluations and mental status examinations (MSE’s) of patients/clients and providing diagnosis according to the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) approved by the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
  • Use Hope’s current electronic health record system and follow Santa Clara County Psychiatric Medical Guidelines. Interface closely with medical director, nurses, clinicians and case managers for a client-centered approach to mental health care.
  • Obtains and reviews data, including laboratory and other diagnostic procedures or consultations pertinent to the evaluation and treatment of patients/clients
  • Provides detailed written reports of assessments/evaluations, MSEs, diagnoses and summaries of treatment provided, and completes all medical records as required.
  • Provides specialized input in the development and implementation of individualized mental health treatment planning for assigned patients/clients, including diagnosis in collaboration with the clinical staff.
  • Provides psychiatric services in outpatient clinics (via telehealth, and/or in the office)
  • Provides consultation, review, and peer guidance for other psychiatrists or therapists in the evaluation and treatment of patients.
  • Consults with the medical director or clinic Director about policies and issues relating to the evaluation and treatment of mental health patients/clients as necessary.
  • Participates in quality assurance, quality improvement and performance improvement programs and activities when needed.
  • Provides expert advice and counseling for client families and care givers regarding patient/client issues, problems and course of treatment, presenting information about mental health diagnoses, intellectual disabilities and how the two intersect.
  • Prepares legal and other court-related documents, written reports, and various forms when deemed necessary and appropriate.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to perform specialized psychiatric/medical services in general psychiatry, evaluate and prescribe medication, (including controlled substances) and other treatments
  • Provide qualified reimbursable services under guidelines of Medicare, Medi-Cal, Regional Centers, and County Mental Health and other funding sources
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients/clients, staff and others.
  • A belief that all people are valued members of the community.
  • An understanding of the principles of normalization and commitment to community integration.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of the team.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, including use of computerized word program and database.
  • Ability to be flexible with scheduling and work in a consumer driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work with a diverse population.

Environmental Conditions And Physical Requirements

A clinical office environment working closely with others as part of interdisciplinary team as well as with persons served, sitting for periods of time in meetings and use of office environment; produce work on computers/office equipment.

Clarifications

Can you please provide some information on census or about the volume they will see per shift. - If they are working 7.5 hours they may see up to 6 - 10 clients that day depending on how many are routine follow ups, new Psychiatric Evaluations etc.

Type of patient population for C/A patients, and specifically if it involved JV-222 cases? A small fraction of our work involves JV220 forms

What type of mental health disorders they will be focused on (depression, anxiety, etc.). Most common are Anxiety Disorder, Intermittent explosive disorder, Depression, disruptive mood disorder, some OCD, some schizoaffective disorder, and some bipolar are the most common.

Does the provider need to be Board Certified or Board Eligible or are you ok with a provider who is not BC or BE? We highly prefer someone certified or eligible but it is not a deal breaker.

Provider will be providing telehealth consults via zoom.

Requirements

Active CA State License

Board Status: Board Certified or Board Eligible (Certification must be obtained within 5 years of residency).

Must be Board Certified or eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and neurology in adult and/or child psychiatry.

Flu vaccination: Required or Need Medical or religious exemption.

Covid vaccination: Required or Need Medical or religious exemption.

Schedule

Looking for Adult and Child Psychiatrist, 12-16 hours/week. Facility can only accept 16 hrs max at this time. There may be a need for more hours around Spring 2026.

Provider schedule can be negotiated, our business hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5. Provider can choose to do an 8 hour shift starting at 8:30, lunch, then finishing at 5:00 PM. Or provider can choose something like 9 AM to 1 PM 3 days a week, or 9 am to 3:00 PM 2 days a week. They can choose to have a lunch hour, half hour or no lunch. How ever many hours the provider decides to sign on for, he/she can design the schedule as long as it works for the clinic and is the same every week.

MUST BE IN PERSON at least 1 day/week.

Pay range is from *** to ***/hr.

Start Date is tentatively put to Jan 1 . Can be discussed.

Prefer drive in candidate. Facility will not cover any travel expenses like gas , mileage, flight or hotel.

Credentialing takes 30 to 40 days
