POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Social Services Director provides leadership and oversight for the Social Services Department, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care across the continuum of services. This role is an integral part of the interdisciplinary treatment team and is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and implementation of social service interventions for patients.
The Clinical Social Services Director oversees the work of Social Services staff, including the Discharge Planner, Case Manager, Activity Therapist, and other departmental personnel, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and adherence to regulatory and ethical standards. This position works closely with the medical staff, Director of Nursing, nursing leadership, and other clinical departments to support patient care, resolve concerns, and address psychosocial needs.
The Director plays a key role in treatment team leadership, crisis intervention, family engagement, discharge planning, and coordination with outside agencies to safeguard patient rights and continuity of care. In addition, the Clinical Social Services Director supports departmental performance improvement initiatives, quality management activities, and assists in planning and managing the department’s budgetary needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership and oversight of the Social Services Department, ensuring effective operations and communication.
- Supervise and guide Social Services staff, ensuring interventions are delivered appropriately and consistently.
- Participate as a core member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Lead and participate in treatment team meetings, special case conferences, and crisis intervention efforts.
- Facilitate communication with patients, families, and external agencies to support patient rights, care coordination, and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with medical staff, nursing leadership, and other departments to resolve patient concerns and improve outcomes.
- Ensure services, programming, and interventions meet regulatory standards and reflect best practices in behavioral health care.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders.
- Interpret and enforce facility policies to ensure compliance and consistency.
- Maintain departmental performance improvement initiatives and participate in Quality Management (QM) activities.
- Assist with identifying and planning budgetary needs for the Social Services Department.
- Uphold the highest ethical standards related to patient care, confidentiality, and patient rights.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support hospital operations and patient care.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Education
- Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work
Licensure
- Licensed through the State regulatory body for Social Workers (LCSW required)
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience performing Social Work duties in a Behavioral Health setting
