Golden State Rehab LLC is seeking a certified and experienced AOD Counselor to join our multidisciplinary treatment team. This role provides direct counseling services to individuals with primary substance use disorders, including individual, group, and family sessions, screening and assessment, case management, and ongoing clinical documentation. The counselor plays a key role in supporting a therapeutic, recovery-focused environment consistent with our program standards and regulatory requirements.
About the Role
The AOD Counselor works under the direction of the Program Director and collaborates with therapists, medical providers, and administrative staff to ensure high-quality care. The counselor is expected to demonstrate strong clinical competency, uphold ethical standards, and maintain productivity based on treatment outcomes and client needs.
Minimum Requirements
- Active CADC I or higher through CCAPP, CADTP, or CAADE (must be certified, not registered; certification must remain active).
- Two years of experience in addiction or mental health settings preferred.
- Strong knowledge of TAP 21 Addiction Counseling Competencies and the 12 Core Functions.
- Ability to complete screenings, assessments, treatment plans, crisis interventions, referrals, discharges, and documentation according to clinical and regulatory standards.
- Familiarity with ASAM Criteria, DSM-5, and evidence-based treatment practices.
- Experience with Electronic Health Records, preferably Kipu.
- Strong ability to build rapport with clients and families.
- Ability to professionally facilitate group and individual therapy.
- Current TB clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold agency policies, client rights, and all professional and ethical codes of conduct.
- Conduct screening and admissions sessions, complete intake documentation, consents, and orientation with new clients.
- Assess client needs using biopsychosocial assessments, ASAM placement criteria, and other clinical tools.
- Develop individualized, person-centered treatment plans with clear goals, objectives, interventions, and prioritized problem lists.
- Provide individual counseling, family sessions, and group facilitation, documenting all services in compliance with program standards.
- Maintain accurate progress notes, treatment updates, discharge summaries, and crisis documentation.
- Participate in clinical meetings, staff trainings, and continuing education activities.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed.
- Support clients in developing recovery skills, relapse prevention strategies, and aftercare plans.
- Provide case management, coordination of care, and referral support as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Perform clinical administrative tasks as assigned by leadership.
