Lake Norman Charter is thrilled to announce that our brand-new Lake Norman Charter Elementary School West campus will open its doors in August 2026! We are seeking an Afterschool Care Coordinator to manage the Knights Kids afterschool program for the 2026-2027 school year. For the first year only, the position will begin July 1, and in subsequent years will return to school in August.

Reports to: Building Principal

Regular Schedule: Monday-Friday, 10:30AM-6:30PM


Purpose:
Lake Norman Charter (LNC) is a K-12 public charter school that provides a rigorous and comprehensive educational environment to develop students with a focus on college readiness, leadership, and social responsibility.


This position is a full time position that is approximately 30% ES Teacher Assistant and 70% Knight Kids Coordinator each day.


ES Teacher Assistant duties are determined each school year by the Principal based on the needs of the school and students. Duties range from supervising at lunch and/or recess OR working with students in small groups or one-to-one. Clerical duties such as making copies may also be included.


Knight Kids Afterschool Coordinator duties include the clerical responsibilities as well as directly supervising High School Counselors and overseeing their student groups (from approximately 3:15-6:00 PM).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as direct supervisor of the HS Knights Kids Counselors.
  • In the spring, posts on Schoology for the counselor jobs, reviews candidates, and schedules interviews to hire HS counselors for the upcoming school year. Creates an evaluation process for any HS Counselors returning for the following year (rising seniors).
  • Provides summer orientation (August workdays) and on-going training to HS counselors on the various activities for their students, managing student behaviors, and other supports needed for working with children.
  • Creates the weekly HS Counselor Schedule and prepares for any last minute absences, communicates with counselors through the Knights Kids Schoology group, text, and in-person, handles any personnel related issues that may arise.
  • Creates the activities and daily schedule of activities and stations that the High School Counselors will rotate their groups to.
  • Organizes material carts and manages inventory of school supplies, indoor and outdoor play equipment, materials for arts/crafts, etc.
  • Oversees student discipline that may occur during Knights Kids. Takes proactive measures with HS Counselors and parent communication to assist with resolution. Works with building administration on serious issues that may result in suspension from the program or exclusion.
  • Creates the registration template based on returning students and adding new students while maintaining 100 students in the program. Creates a wait list for possible movement. Updates the registration forms for each school year.
  • Reviews KK Handbook at the end of each school year, proposes edits to the principal, and updates school year dates in which Knights Kids is available and not available (due to holidays, prom, etc.)
  • Communicates with parents via email with any Knights Kids updates, information related to safety or discipline as well as tuition or financial, etc.
  • Collaborates with the Financial Department concerning tuition payments, tax information for families in January, payroll for HS counselors, and the Knights Kids budget for materials and food.
  • Works with Facilities and Admin Department to implement building safety plans/procedures (for potential code yellow or red as well as security of the building during Knights Kids and upon leaving).
  • Collaborates with School Nurse to plan for any students with medical needs (allergic to peanuts, seizures, etc.) in addition to completing any necessary medical procedures (injury reporting/documentation) that may arise.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the building principal or other designated administrative staff.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
  • Preference for previous teaching, tutoring, or coaching experience
