The Peer Support Specialist provides recovery-oriented support services to individuals receiving mental health and/or substance use services. This role leverages lived experience to promote hope, self-advocacy, wellness, and community integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer-to-peer support using lived experience to promote recovery and resilience
- Support clients in developing coping strategies, self-advocacy skills, and wellness plans
- Facilitate individual and group peer support sessions
- Assist clients with goal setting and navigating community resources
- Collaborate with clinicians and care teams while maintaining peer role integrity
- Document services accurately and in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards
- Maintain ethical boundaries, confidentiality, and professional conduct
Required Qualifications
- Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (or eligibility to obtain certification within a specified timeframe)
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in behavioral health, human services, or community-based programs
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care models
- Familiarity with Medicaid or managed care documentation requirements
Work Schedule
- Flexible scheduling may include evenings or weekends
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
