The Case Manager/Counselor provides on-site coverage, case management, and counseling services to residents in InterAct’s emergency shelter. Responsibilities include case management, supportive counseling, advocacy, referrals, and connections to wraparound services. This position requires a strong advocate who consistently upholds InterAct’s core values and prioritizes client needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide case management and counseling related to domestic and sexual violence, focusing on independent living strategies.
- Facilitate groups, conduct crisis and supportive counseling.
- Perform intake assessments for new residents.
- Meet regularly with clients to establish and review goals.
- Assist with planning and organizing Holiday Bizarre and holiday donations.
- Collaborate with InterAct staff, community partners, and stakeholders to coordinate comprehensive services.
- Educate and consult with community agencies and represent InterAct publicly.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date client records and program documentation as required.
- Provide transportation and advocacy for clients seeking services such as mental health, substance abuse, or school related referrals as needed.
- Assist Director of Shelter Programming with client intake interviews as needed.
- Conduct regular \safety inspections of all residential areas.
- Provide support for walk-in services and crisis lines.
- Attend supervision meetings with the Director to review and assess case progress.
- Participate in volunteer training and community education presentations.
- Serve as a program specialist or liaison as assigned.
- Provide general shelter operations and shift coverage as needed.
- Complete administrative tasks to ensure continuity of care and compliance (e.g., updating forms, logs, exit summaries, data entry in EmpowerDB).
- Uphold confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
- Foster a warm, welcoming environment with empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Ensure collaboration across support services and other programs to maintain seamless client care.
- Represent InterAct’s mission in community outreach and partnership activities.
- Comply with all agency policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Complete 20 hours of onboarding and maintain 20 hours of annual training (July 1 – June 30).
- Perform additional duties as needed to support program operations.
Qualifications
- Strong commitment to ending domestic and sexual violence.
- Ability to provide culturally competent, empathetic, and non-judgmental services to diverse populations.
- Solid case management skills and knowledge of local community resources.
- Emotional maturity, stability, and sound judgment.
- Familiarity with Wake County’s service network and ability to build partnerships.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
- Capacity to remain calm and diplomatic in crisis situations.
- Team-oriented with problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related human services field.
- At least three (2) years of experience in supervision, direct services, crisis intervention, or advocacy, or five (5) years of equivalent experience.
- Experience working with survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence preferred.
- Successful background check and compliance with InterAct’s Communicable Diseases Policy.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record.
