Growing Real Estate Management and Development firm is seeking an experienced Social Worker for our Bronx office. Ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years working with interviewing, assessment and engagement skills; empathy for low-income/vulnerable, culturally diverse, physically/mentally disabled and/or elderly populations; ability to work collaboratively with the affordable housing management team and/or independently on- or off-site as needed to deliver tenant management services in a comprehensive and timely manner.

Social Worker Job Description

  • 3 years’ minimum experience working with connecting residents to social services and support through direct referral and outreach.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to property management for tenancy actions that require social service intervention and mental competency evaluations.
  • Ability to interface with service providers from all sectors of the service systems
  • Familiarity with human services practices/principles/code(s) of ethics.
  • Knowledge of range of public benefits (SNAP/Food Stamps, Access-a-Ride, Reduced Fare Metro Card, Medicare Savings Program, Medicaid Spend Down, NYCHA/Section-8/public/affordable housing/lotteries, Medicaid/Medicare, SSI/SSD/SSA, etc.) and eligibility criteria and/or a quick learner willing to attend trainings, and apply concepts/eligibility criteria when screening households, and ask questions as needed.
  • Solid writing/grammar/typing and organizational/time management skills; diligence when completing accurate and timely case documentation; basic math/calculation skills for conducting financial assessments of households.
  • Conducting applicant and tenant interviews by obtaining all criteria obtaining necessary income and general verifications.
  • Interacting with prospective residents.
  • Good phone etiquette, Microsoft Office including Word and MS Outlook.
  • Must possess a positive attitude.
  • Participate in training in order to comply with new or existing laws.
  • Demonstrate ability to diffuse and respond to customer concerns.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health or a related field plus minimum 2 years of applied supervisory experience. Master’s Degree or its equivalent preferred. High school diploma or GED and extensive Community Health Worker experience including direct supervision may also be substituted for formal education.
