Peer Support Specialist

Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)

We are seeking a compassionate, tech-savvy, and relationship-driven Peer Support Specialist to provide encouragement, motivation, and practical support to individuals navigating behavioral health or social-emotional challenges. This is a non-clinical role focused on connection, trust, and motivation—ideal for someone with strong interpersonal skills, an ability to engage others, and a passion for helping people feel heard and supported.

Peer Support Specialists are there to guide, mentor, and motivate members using lived experience, active listening, and motivational interviewing techniques (MI). This role requires empathy, reliability, and comfort using digital tools to track interactions and support member progress.

Compensation: $15 to $25 / hour

Benefits: 3 weeks paid time off (2 weeks + 6-7 federal holidays), 401K, Medical, Dental, and Vision.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one peer support through hybrid engagement to build trust, offer encouragement, and support individuals through personal goals.
  • Use motivational interviewing techniques to guide members toward healthier decisions, improved stability, and increased engagement with their care.
  • Assist members with navigating digital platforms, telehealth tools, mobile apps, and other technology used in their care plan.
  • Document interactions, progress updates, and follow-up needs in the organization’s systems with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Help members set achievable goals, build routines, and access community or social resources.
  • Collaborate with behavioral health teams, case managers, or care coordinators to ensure members receive comprehensive support.
  • Monitor member engagement patterns and proactively reach out when additional encouragement or check-ins are needed.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and uphold peer-support ethics while fostering genuine connection.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in peer support, mentoring, coaching, community support, or lived experience supporting personal recovery (Preferred).
  • Familiarity with motivational interviewing or willingness to complete training.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable with mobile apps, electronic documentation, and remote communication.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and rapport-building abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, stay organized, and follow structured workflows.
  • Bilingual (Preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree (Added Plus)
