Founded in 1977, Mariposa Women and Family Center (“Mariposa”) is a non-profit organization committed to empowering women, men, children, and families through comprehensive support services, including mental health and substance use counseling, as well as enhanced care management. We provide a safe and nurturing environment where individuals can access resources, education, and advocacy to foster personal growth, strengthen family bonds, and achieve their full potential.

We are currently seeking an experienced mission-driven Mental Health Counselor to join our team and help us achieve our mission and goals by ensuring the high-quality counseling services to all clients. The ideal is responsible for providing comprehensive counseling services to clients to overcome barriers to employability and self-sufficiency. This role involves conducting individual, group, and family counseling sessions, maintaining a client caseload, and performing thorough mental health and substance abuse evaluations.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling to clients to overcome barriers to employability and self-sufficiency.
  • Provide counseling services to formerly incarcerated individuals in court-mandated treatment programs.
  • Maintain a client caseload (minimum 35 clients if full-time), including charting and required documentation.
  • Conduct thorough mental health/substance abuse evaluations resulting in the identification of client strengths and vocational abilities/impairments.
  • Develop coordination and service plans with clients focused on work-related activities.
  • Provide consultation to assure appropriate and effective referral services for clients.
  • Ensure appropriate release forms are obtained from clients to facilitate communication regarding clients' progress.
  • Using Simple Practice, ensure that all notes are complete and accurate.
  • Provide monthly summaries and feedback to referring workers.
  • Provide monthly statistical reports and updates to the supervisor following required protocol, including procedural or resource problems.
  • Maintain contact or follow-up on inactive cases through letters or phone calls.
  • Prepare correspondence and feedback in a timely manner related to cases.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Perform special projects or duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum one year of related working experience conducting individual and group counseling sessions required.
  • Demonstrated written ability in charting.
  • Minimum master’s degree in human services, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field required. Must be registered with the BBS.
  • Education, training, and/or work experience in the field of alcoholism or chemical dependency and women's issues.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate diverse groups through structured sessions effectively.
  • Ability to assess crisis situations, provide intervention and referrals, and perform counseling/case management.
  • Ability to conduct intakes and assessments.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • High level of professionalism with demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive material professionally.
  • Effective management of deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintaining professionalism in line with agency and county policies.
  • Capacity to network with external agencies and individuals as required.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to a changing work environment.
  • Above-average computer skills, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and data/electronic records programs in use.
  • Bilingual proficiency highly desired.

Special Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of sobriety if a recovering alcoholic/drug addict.
  • Subject to background clearance including Live Scan Fingerprinting.
