Overview
We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor to join our behavioral health team. This position provides support for Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization (PHP) levels of care, specifically serving adolescents ages 12–17.
The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive addiction counseling, mental health support, and crisis intervention services for individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. This role includes conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and facilitating individual, group. The counselor will play a key role in guiding adolescents through their recovery journey using evidence-based practices and a collaborative care approach.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and intake interviews, to determine treatment needs.
- Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
- Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions focused on addiction recovery, emotional regulation, and relapse prevention.
- Provide crisis intervention and management for clients experiencing acute mental health or substance-related crises.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes and treatment plans, in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, case managers, and community partners to coordinate comprehensive care.
- Educate adolescents and their families about substance use, behavioral health, and available community resources.
- Ensure adherence to confidentiality and documentation standards, including appropriate ICD-9/ICD-10 coding.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training in addiction treatment and adolescent behavioral health.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong knowledge of psychotherapy techniques, including CBT, applied behavior analysis, and behavioral management strategies.
- Proficient in motivational interviewing, crisis management, and intervention techniques.
- Experience working with adolescents and families in clinical or community-based settings.
- Familiarity with medical documentation, CPT/ICD coding, and data collection best practices.
- Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations using standardized assessment tools (research experience a plus).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage adolescents effectively.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and ethical standards.
- Prior experience in addiction counseling within behavioral health or mental health settings is highly preferred.

Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
