Description:JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition Title: Social WorkerJob Goal: To provide social work services to schools and students in order to resolve personal,emotional, and social problems and to enhance student learning and personal growth.REPORTS TO: SuperintendentQUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited University; possess and maintainstanding as a Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW); ability to meet the suitabilitycriteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama ChildProtection Act of 1999 and Act No 2002-457; proficient oral and written communicationskills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups,as well as community agencies; knowledge of community-based resources and agencies; ability todevelop, evaluate and implement social work programs.SALARY: To be determined commensurate with local salary schedule, credentials, and experience.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.2. Serves as a student advocate and as a liaison between the home, school, and community.3. Provides intervention services for students and families with interpersonal and environmental difficulties.4. Assists in the referral process of students and/or parents to appropriate community agencies and follow-up as necessary.5. Provides consultation and collaborative services to teachers, principals, counselors, and other school personnel.6. Makes home and community visits, as needed.7. Helps identify and provide services to homeless students.8. Prepares and maintains professional documentation, including assessment results and intervention logs.9. Models and maintains high ethical standards.10. Assists school personnel in assessing students' social and environmental needs.11. Coordinates and develops specialized services for students, parents, and families.12. Develops and implements plans to enhance students' school success.13. Assists school personnel in understanding better how facts such as family, culture, socioeconomic status, and physical and mental health can affect students' performance.14. Develops a rapport with students and acts as a mentor when appropriate through individual and small group contact.15. Assists with crisis prevention and intervention as needed.16. As a part of the education team, helps students to improve their attendance, cope with crisis situations, develop self-discipline, build self-esteem, enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills, take advantage of educational opportunities, and learn to resolve conflicts without violence.17. As a result of working with students, schools, and communities, supports parents and families to actively participate in their child's education, use school and community resources more effectively, and identity and meet their child's emotional and social needs.19. Provides counseling to individual students at assigned schools having emotional, social, behavioral, or attendance problems.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.2. Demonstrates appropriate organizational and time management skills.3. Attends staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve professional performance and knowledge.4. Serves on school and/or system committees, advisory boards, and/or task forces as needed.5. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.6. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.7. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.8. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.9. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.10. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.11. Supports the mission and vision of Selma City Schools.12. Complies with all district policies, rules and regulations.13. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.
