POSITION SUMMARY:

The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor is part of the Outpatient Medication Assisted Treatment program and State Opioid Response grant. This position provides direct counseling services, screening, motivational interviewing, treatment plan collaboration and assessment using the ASAM levels of care for patients who have a history of problematic alcohol or other drug use.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans and provides substance use disorder recovery services for adults and adolescents who are abusing alcohol or other drugs.
  • Under clinical supervision, participates in the development of treatment plans to address the behavioral needs of participants struggling with impairments from problematic use of alcohol or other drugs.
  • Conducts initial screening interviews for those patients who meet the threshold for at-risk substance use, as determined by self-administered universal patient screening measures (e.g. DAST).
  • Assists participants, as part of an integrated care team to address the whole person care needs of the individual, by establishing a plan to address social, cultural, familial and personal patterns that contribute to alcohol and other drug use.
  • Leads group supportive counseling for patient participants.
  • Provides individual and family counseling to patients whose treatment plans including goals to reduce or stop drug or alcohol use.
  • Monitors and documents progress in the patients' primary care electronic medical record.
  • Consults with medical providers and behaviorists on the initial outpatient withdrawal management (e.g. suboxone induction) on site of the OP facility.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certification as an alcohol or substance abuse counselor from an approved organization qualified to certify individuals as alcohol and drug counselors pursuant to California Code of Regulations (CCR) Chapter 8, Title 9, Section 13035(a).
  • Experience working with marginalized communities, and individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
  • Experience conducting screenings and assessments for substance use disorder treatment with an understanding of ASAM levels of care and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for opioid use disorder. Experience providing care coordination and case management services.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
