About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Psychiatric Technician to provide therapeutic and custodial care to patients within a correctional healthcare environment. The ideal candidate possesses strong clinical judgment, emotional resilience, and the ability to de-escalate behavioral situations with professionalism and empathy. You’ll work under the supervision of RNs and mental health professionals to assist in monitoring, treatment, and patient support in a secure facility.

Requirements

· Active California Psychiatric Technician License (LPT).

· Minimum 1 year of recent psychiatric or correctional healthcare experience.
Current BLS certification (AHA only).

· Ability to pass background and security clearance checks.

· Strong understanding of behavioral health principles, crisis intervention, and patient observation.

· No or terminated CalPers account.

Skills & Competencies

• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to psychiatric symptoms and behaviors.
• Proficiency in crisis prevention, intervention, and therapeutic communication.
• Emotional resilience and composure in high-stress environments.
• Team collaboration and adherence to correctional facility safety standards.
• Documentation accuracy and compliance with clinical and security protocols.

Unit Information

• Setting: Correctional Facility – Mental Health/Behavioral Unit
• Patient Population: Adult inmates requiring psychiatric or behavioral support
• Support Staff: RNs, LPNs, Physicians, CNAs, Mental Health Technicians, and Custody Officers

Travel Contract Details

• 13-week renewable assignment with opportunity for extension.
