Job Overview
As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. In this role, you would provide care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a home setting—helping with daily needs such as hygiene, meals, medications, and companionship. It’s really about being a caring, dependable presence for people who need support in their day-to-day lives.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient care and support in accordance with individualized care plans.
- Supporting individuals with daily routines and activities
- Administer medications as prescribed and ensure proper documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Complete daily paperwork such as notes and medication logs
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties.
- Assist clients with mobility using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Collaborate with care team professionals (support coordinators, program managers) to develop and implement effective care strategies.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the overall well-being of clients.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in caregiving, aide or direct support roles is preferred.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR certification is highly desirable, must be willing to become CPR/FA certified (paid for by company)
- Must be willing to complete a 32 hr medication aide course (paid by company)
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or other special needs is a plus.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and assist clients with physical mobility challenges.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and documeting applications online.
- Must be able to complete daily notes and logs as reguired per state regulations.
- Compassionate demeanor and a genuine desire to help others achieve their highest level of independence.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Have dependable transportation and a valid drivers license.
- Must be able to pass a state and federal background check .
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 per week
