Sexual Assault Victim Advocate
Responsible to: Clinical Director
Status: Exempt
Salary: $43,953 (annually)
Classification: 35 hour, regular full-time.
Mission Statement:
SAFE’s mission is to provide education to the community, advocacy for individuals and families, and empowerment to heal from sexual violence and other traumatic experiences.
General Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) is responsible for delivering effective compassionate advocacy services in assigned service regions under the direction of the Clinical Director.
Job Duties:
· Provide medical and legal advocacy and case management services for the victims of sexual assault, sexual abuse or other types of sexual violence to ensure their rights as victims are upheld.
· Provide limited on-call emergency services on a rotating basis with the full-time and crisis advocates.
· Accompany victims to hospitals, law enforcement agencies, States Attorney/Court appointments/proceedings to provide support and information on medical/legal processes.
· Provide updated/ongoing information to victims and their families on court system progress.
· Provide Institutional Advocacy and Professional Training to legal and medical agencies.
· Assist in the establishment of networking agreements with hospitals, law enforcement, social service agencies, and State’s Attorney offices.
· Remain up-to-date on state and federal laws which have an effect on services and victims of sexual assault/abuse and sexual violence.
· Provide appropriate referrals to community agencies for individuals seeking assistance.
· Maintain timely appropriate documentation and record keeping.
· Attend all scheduled staff meetings.
· Assist with fundraising and awareness events.
· Maintain electronic calendar and update as needed, including but not limited to: regular activities, travel time, schedule changes, vacation, and health-related time off.
· Assist in the training of new advocates as needed, including job shadowing.
· Participate in six (6) hours of continuing education credits annually.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Human Service/Criminal Justice or 3+ years’ experience preferred
o Associated Degree and experience will be considered)
· Complete ICASA 40-hour training including confidentiality training
· Complete ICASA 20-hour Advocate Training
· Completion of 6 hours annually in continued education.
· Excellent verbal, listening and writing skills
· Ability to use personal vehicle for agency travel
· Read, understand, and adhere to policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
