Overview:
Art Start uses the creative process to nurture the voices, hearts, and minds of youth from communities that have been historically and strategically underrepresented. Through the creative process driven work of mentorship, workshops, and youth led multimedia projects, art becomes the catalyst for larger conversations about the future of our communities. As the LMSW in the space, you would foster an environment of youth work for all sites steeped in the development of healing centered engagement, group discussion, and personal/professional development of youth that provide space for one on one engagement and group development to grow and environment based on empathy and understanding through a balanced structural approach.
Responsibilities:
- LMSW will obtain permission (parental/caregiver guardian: underage youth) and individual youth/young adult prior to engagement in any services. During cases of emergency identified by staff, exceptions will be made should youth need hospitalization or ACS support.
- Provide staff training for all Art Start staff in the areas of healing centered engagement, holistic care models, therapeutic intervention, behavioral and restorative justice services, and socio-emotional learning models to ensure agency compliance with professional standards of practice.
- Serve as lead group facilitator in LMSW managed programs.
- Create and implement a treatment plan of all assessed young people in need within Art Start
- Provide and document goals, intakes, evaluations, and weekly assessments of youth in one on one sessions 24 hours after appointment.
- Develop, secure, and refer youth to resources as needed to provide access to community resources and government agencies such as food banks, health care, housing supports, benefit programs, and unemployment services.
- Evaluate and monitor improvement through HelloInsight, case management support updates, and establishment of criteria around goals for treatment services.
- Develop partnerships with organizations providing similar work within art therapy and counseling or community partners looking to engage with Art Start for that framework.
- Serve as the secondary point of contact for youth engaged in the program. ● Assist in the careful collection of detailed data and creation of timely and accurate reports; that demonstrate the impact of the work and initiate program shifts informed by that data.
- Engage in collaboration and case coordination with all Art Start staff, stakeholders, and evaluators.
- Participate in team supervision, and attend other meetings as required. ● Maintain regular accurate program records and case files in database systems utilized by Art Start.
- Work collaboratively with program staff and stakeholders that impact the youth engaged in programming.
- Oversight for Art Start MSW interns as a Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) supervisor.
Qualifications:
- LMSW or LCSW, with approved National Association of Social Workers supervision (must have up to date licensure)
- Must be SIFI certified
- Previous NYC systems experience such as DHS, DOE, or DYCD or have cleared their background check and fingerprints preferred
- Strong writing skills required
- Ability to communicate effectively and strong interpersonal skills
- Able to implement vision, think strategically, exercise good judgment, and lead change
- High level of self-awareness and ability to give and receive feedback well
- Impeccable attention to detail, systems, and processes
- Ability to work with flexibility, independence, accountability, passion, and humor
- A meaningful commitment to practicing from a healing-centered, anti-oppressive stance
- Lived experience within systems that impact children and families of the diaspora
