Transitional Services for New York, Inc., (TSINY) not-for profit, is a comprehensive, community-based mental health organization located in New York City. We provide a continuum of rehabilitative services to enrich the lives of those recovering from mental illness and facilitate their transition to increased levels of independence. TSINY is looking for a Peer Counseling for our PROS location in Jamaica (Queens), NY.

Position Salary: $20.50 / hour, Part-Time (26hrs weekly)

Must have lived experience with mental health services.

Position Summary

Provide leadership support to staff and assist staff and consumers in building the self-help culture of the center. Assist members in building computer competency and systems negotiation skills.

Essential Functions

  • Peer counseling
  • Work collaboratively with Opportunities staff and members in the development and implementation of Self-Help programs.
  • Identify supportive community resources to assist the mono-lingual Latino consumer in building bi-lingual capacity.
  • Assist the Program Director in admission screening of applicants.
  • Provide referrals to community-based services as needed.
  • Provide mentorship support to consumers, participants and Transitional Employment staff.
  • Provide supervision for Agency volunteers.
  • Arrange screening and placement of new computer students.
  • Supervise the implementation of Cognitive Remediation and Plato programs.
  • Support consumers in the development of a WRAP Plan.
  • Be able to sit or stand as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • May require walking, primarily on a level surface, for short periods throughout the day, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Be able to reach above shoulder heights, below the waist or lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • During a declared disaster, assume and adhere to assigned Job Action role(s) consistent with Disaster Preparedness Plan.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Experience/Education/Skills/Abilities

High School diploma or a combination of education and relevant experience to total four years.
