This position is located at Coalinga State Hospital.

Under general direction to (1) perform difficult and responsible assignments relating to psychological assessment and treatment and either (a) assist in the direction od the psychology program similar in size and nature at a health facility; or (2) plan, organize, and corrdinate a special patient treatment program which utilizes psychological techniques as its main nonmedical emphasis at a health facility, and coordinate the work of treatment staff of various clinical specialties and volunteers in the program. In addition, incumbents, as needed, serve, as a department-wide expert and psychology consultant in a specific psychology discipline; and do other related work.

Working Conditions

The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital. All employees are required to have an annual health review and repeat health reviews whenever necessary to ascertain that they are free from symptoms indicating the presence of infection and are able to safely perform their essential job duties.

Department Information

DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.

Adherence to Risk Need Responsivity (RNR) principles; Self-Regulation and Better Lives Integrated Models. Knowledge of the SVP Act and the commitment process, wellness and recovery model, and conditional release placement processes. Demonstrates the ability to develop and implement behavioral guidelines, facilitate sex offender Psychoeducational and Process psychotherapy groups using cognitive behavioral principles, provide coaching on self-regulations techniques.
