Job Summary

Provide forensic and clinical assessments of adults and children related to criminal and civil cases assigned to the Bureau/Department. Ascertain the competency and fitness of clients. Conduct psychological testing and provide mental health diagnoses and risk assessments. Prepare comprehensive reports of forensic evaluations. Provide expert testimony in court. Review medical records, school records, and legal records. Communicate with client families, caseworkers, physicians, and other professionals and parties relevant to clients. Conduct in-house trainings. Consult and coordinate the activities of the social workers assigned to the unit. Provide guidance for others in the application of psychology and delegate work, as needed. Consult and assist attorneys in cases requiring psychological expertise.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Psychology or a directly related field AND

• Five (5) years working in psychology involving direct interactions with patients or directly related experience OR

• An equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of the theories and assumptions underlying the field of psychology, including knowledge of criminal justice system rules and regulations.

• Knowledge of test procedures, standard test forms, and mental measurements. Ability to properly interpret psychological information and make sound recommendations.

• Knowledge of or ability to quickly and effectively grasp and utilize County policies, protocols, and technical vernacular used throughout each union labor agreement for the County.

• Knowledge of the application of psychology to address social and emotional deviation and mental illness in both children and adults, including knowledge of techniques, methods, and principles followed in clinical psychology.

• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with clients, client families, caseworkers, physicians, and other professionals and parties relevant to the clients.

• Ability to gather information from others and make inquiries. Ability to convey information and explain or describe County policies and procedures to others in person or by telephone. Ability to clearly articulate through concise analyses of assigned case materials.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
