Positional Summary
This role requires enthusiasm to work with college students, a commitment to holistic student well-being, and an openness to innovative mental health service delivery models. Under the guidance of the Director and the Clinical Director, the LCMHC will provide a wide range of clinical and outreach services to Duke students in a fast-paced, high-demand university environment. The counselor’s work will be guided by a commitment to serve the Duke University students by providing timely and culturally responsive clinical services to a diverse student body. Successful candidates would be experienced in providing brief, time-limited therapy services, skilled in crisis management, and have a passion for promoting overall student wellbeing. The individual must be a strong generalist who can provide multimodal treatments and understands the unique developmental stages and mental health concerns of college aged student population.

Anticipated Pay Range
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $61,535.00 to USD $92,820.00. Key Position Duties
Direct Services – 60%
- Provide triage, crisis care, and clinical consultation to all Duke students, presenting with acute distress. Assess, deescalate, support, and make appropriate treatment referrals.
- Conduct initial intakes, determine and recommend treatment plan, and provide ongoing therapy services. Provide single session therapy, as requested.
- Initiate and facilitate group therapy services that may include process, support, or skill-based spaces.
- Develop and facilitate outreach and workshops on various mental health and wellness topics, placing priority on expanding service access for all students.
- Participate in campus-wide prevention efforts
- Organize, coordinate, and provide supervision and didactic seminars to master’s level interns.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with state laws, ethical guidelines, and per CAPS policies and procedures.
- Utilize Electronic Medical Record System to maintain client records in accordance with HIPPA and FERPA regulations.
- Coordinate referrals for students who need to be referred to services outside of CAPS.
- Serve as the liaison to university departments to provide consultation and training to promote integrated support services.
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with the internal and external colleagues.
- Provide consultation to campus partners, families, and community providers to coordinate student care.
- Follow agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, and HIPAA
- Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours emergency services.
- Attend weekly staff meetings, clinical consultation team meetings, CE presentations, and biweekly supervision meetings.
- Serve on committees, as assigned by the CAPS leadership.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in college mental health as well as to maintain an active license. Attend local, regional, and national conferences, as time permitted.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all ethical standards.
- Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet departmental, Division and University goals and objectives, as assigned by their Supervisor, Director, or respective designees.

Qualifications, Skills, And Competencies
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum Education
- Master's degree in counseling or related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Current, active, and unrestricted license as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors.
- Full licensure is required as LCMHC in the state of North Carolina. An Associate license (LCMHCA) will not qualify or be considered for this position.
- Out-of-state applicants require a NC full (LCMHC) license by the start of employment.
- Minimum Experience
- None required beyond education/training requirement
Strongly Preferred Education and Experience:
- Education: Master’s degree in Counseling, Social work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related mental health field.
- Experiences:
- 3 years of post-masters experience in a clinical setting and 5 years of clinical and crisis experience in a student mental health agency, university, or relevant healthcare or social service setting.
- Demonstrated experience providing mental health services, including crisis, individual, and group therapy.
- Demonstrated experience in crisis assessment, intervention, consultation and case management.
- Demonstrated experience in working with emerging and young adult population, preferably in a university counseling setting.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to manage clinical caseload in a demanding environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a teem-oriented environment.
- Strong commitment to overall wellbeing of students of all communities.
- Demonstrated clinical experience as a generalist provider.
- Strong demonstrated clinical and crisis management skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills. Proficient with EMHR.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to work as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team in a university counseling center.
- Experience with and commitment to working with diverse clients.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and use excellent judgment in working with student clients who need CAPS services.
- The ideal candidate must be self-motivated and able to manage independent projects as well as collaborative teamwork.
