Facility: BayCare Health System, Laboratory Administration – HSS
Shift: 8-Hour Shifts (Times Vary)
Schedule: PRN | No Weekends | No On-Call
Remote Work: Hybrid Option

Role Overview

As a Genetic Counselor, you will play a vital role in assessing the possibility of inherited familial diseases occurring or recurring within families. Using patient and family medical histories, laboratory testing, and current research data, you will provide education, counseling, and support to help patients and families understand, adapt, and cope with the impact of genetically inherited conditions. You will also educate patients on genetic transfer, testing options, and care strategies, while empowering them to make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess family health histories to evaluate genetic risk and disease recurrence.

  • Educate patients and families about genetic inheritance, laboratory testing, and available resources.

  • Provide counseling and support to help patients cope with the psychological, medical, and familial impact of inherited conditions.

  • Collaborate with physicians, laboratory professionals, and other care providers to coordinate patient care.

  • Maintain compliance with professional, state, and hospital standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Required: Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling

Certification & Licensure

  • Required: Board Certification in Genetic Counseling from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or Board-Eligible within 6 months

  • Required: Florida Genetic Counseling License

Experience

  • Preferred: 1 year of Genetic Counseling experience

  • New graduates are welcome to apply – training provided
