Facility: BayCare Health System, Laboratory Administration – HSS
Shift: 8-Hour Shifts (Hours Vary)
Schedule: PRN | No Weekends | No On-Call
Remote Work: Hybrid Option

Role Overview

As a Genetic Counseling Assistant, you will provide essential administrative and patient support to BayCare’s Genetic Counseling team. You will coordinate appointments, manage referrals, and assist with pre-authorization and medical record collection. This role also supports patients directly by handling inquiries, facilitating follow-up, and assisting with documentation and testing workflows. Strong communication skills and knowledge of medical terminology are key to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Genetic Counselor with administrative and patient care tasks.

  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, manage referrals, and coordinate follow-up.

  • Obtain patient consent, records, testing information, and insurance pre-authorization.

  • Assist patients with inquiries, follow-up communications, and escorting when applicable.

  • Enter patient data and results into tracking systems and databases.

  • Complete testing order entry and prepare documents for EMR scanning.

  • Collaborate with counselors, clinicians, and patients to facilitate clear communication and smooth clinic operations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Science or related field

Experience

  • Required: 1 year related experience (may substitute for Bachelor’s degree)

  • Preferred: 1 year healthcare or medically related experience
