Job Title: After School Counselor

Reports to: After School Program Director

Position Overview

The After School Counselor will provide supervision, guidance, and structured activities for students in grades K–8 during the after-school program. The counselor will foster a safe, engaging, and supportive environment by organizing group activities, assisting with homework, and leading enrichment opportunities such as crafts and physical activities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and ensure the safety of students at all times
• Organize and lead small-group activities, including games, crafts, and physical play
• Provide homework assistance and encourage academic growth
• Maintain positive behavior management and enforce program rules consistently
• Support social and emotional development through relationship-building
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families as needed
• Assist with program setup, cleanup, and daily operations
• Perform other duties as assigned by the After School Program Director

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Successful completion of a background check required
• Experience working with children preferred (school, camp, daycare, or similar setting)
• Ability to manage groups of students with patience and consistency
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Dependable, responsible, and flexible in a team environment

Work Schedule

• Part-time, weekdays after school hours (approx. 2:30–6:00 PM)
• Additional hours may be required on early release or special program days

Physical Requirements

• Ability to supervise and engage students in physical activities both indoors and outdoors
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week

Work Location: In person
