Job Title: After School Counselor
Reports to: After School Program Director
Position Overview
The After School Counselor will provide supervision, guidance, and structured activities for students in grades K–8 during the after-school program. The counselor will foster a safe, engaging, and supportive environment by organizing group activities, assisting with homework, and leading enrichment opportunities such as crafts and physical activities.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and ensure the safety of students at all times
- Organize and lead small-group activities, including games, crafts, and physical play
- Provide homework assistance and encourage academic growth
- Maintain positive behavior management and enforce program rules consistently
- Support social and emotional development through relationship-building
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families as needed
- Assist with program setup, cleanup, and daily operations
- Perform other duties as assigned by the After School Program Director
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Successful completion of a background check required
- Experience working with children preferred (school, camp, daycare, or similar setting)
- Ability to manage groups of students with patience and consistency
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Dependable, responsible, and flexible in a team environment
Work Schedule
- Part-time, weekdays after school hours (approx. 2:30–6:00 PM)
- Additional hours may be required on early release or special program days
Physical Requirements
- Ability to supervise and engage students in physical activities both indoors and outdoors
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
