About Us

Since 2015, Cape Fear Adventure Company has provided the best outdoor excursions and outdoor summer camps for our area, and now we have expanded our services to include an after-school program. We are a small, family business obsessed with people having a good time!

The after-school program, for grades K-5, is outdoor-focused with scheduled activities such as kayaking, crabbing, fishing, and hiking. The program will also be skills-focused, providing kids with the opportunity to learn skills such as orienteering, setting up tents, and building shelter. Students will also have daily activities such as homework, crafts, a climbing wall, games, and more.

Job Description

We are looking for a fun, responsible after-school program counselor who can lead daily activities, assist in outdoor and skills-based activities, and engage and interact with students., as part of a 3-4 person team. The counselor may need to drive a 15-passenger van to area schools to pick up students. The counselor will also assist in daily set up and cleaning duties.

Our perfect candidate would already have experience as an after-school or camp counselor or have related experience or is a college student majoring in education or recreation.

This person could have the ability to develop curriculum and activities and could potentially grow with the company. Additional hours may be available as a summer camp counselor, kayak excursion guide, or outdoor guide (in season, with certain skills)

The position requires the following skills and characteristics:

  • Ability to be patient with kids
  • Ability to assert authority and enforce rules and behavior management
  • Ability to confidently lead activities and speak to a group
  • Commitment to providing a safe and clean learning and play environment
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Commitment to work schedule and being on time; reliable and dependable
  • An interest in or experience in outdoor activities or at least the willingness to learn
  • Clean background check and clean driving record
  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid certification. This would be provided by CFAC

Position Details

Work Schedule: 2:00-6:00 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the traditional August-June school year. Includes the option to move into summer camp counselor position June-August (40 hours for certain weeks)

Start Date: This position will start ASAP.
