Job Title: Co-Response Crisis Counselor (Nashville, TN)

JOB SUMMARY: Position Summary: Provide face-to-face crisis intervention services in the least restrictive manner to people experiencing a mental health emergency and mental health support and care coordination while co-responding with Metro Nashville Police Department
Position Responsibilities
- Conduct crisis assessment and crisis intervention services to appropriately address the needs of consumers experiencing a psychiatric emergency.
- Provide immediate mental health support, coordinate consumer care and use internal/external programs and outside community resources to ensure quality care to reduce engagement with criminal justice system.
- Counselor will ride along in police car responding to primarily mental health calls for service but will also provide mental health support for the community in other calls for service.
- Clinically assess for the least restrictive alternative to meet the needs of the consumers experiencing a psychiatric emergency.
- When hospitalization is necessary, make appropriate referrals to facilities equipped to meet needs of the consumers.
- Make appropriate referrals to EPS Treatment Services to ensure they have necessary clinical information.
- Actively participate in consult process with supervisory staff when dispositioning cares.
- Provide follow-up services as indicated in the policies and procedures and as set forth in Title 33.
- Coordinate with CIT Co-response team in cases where intense follow up and systems navigation are needed.
- Develop individualized plans to meet needs of consumers in crisis.
- Respond to requests for face-to-face assessment in a timely manner.
- Maintain appropriate customer service skills at all times.
- Assist Triage Counselors in coordinating crisis response and care with consumers in the community.
- Provide telephone counseling when needed.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and complete documentation within departmental guidelines.
- Coordinate services as needed with care management teams and provide consultation, as needed, with care management teams.
- Assist community agencies with information and/or dispositions.
- Educate community agencies as needed on crisis services as directed by supervisory staff.
- Assist teammates as needed.
- Actively pursue full licensure and Mandatory Pre-Screener Agent status while employed, achieving this within 4 years of start date.
- Comply with Metro-Nashville Police Department (MNPD) policies pertaining to professional conduct and reporting close personal relationships to MHC department administration.
- Must obtain and maintain acceptable security clearance by MNPD.
- Responsible for attending all mandatory in-services, continuing education and annual health requirements
- Comply with all Corporate Compliance policies, practices and procedures
- Report all unethical activities to supervisor, Corporate Compliance Office, Values Hotline number or Human Resource Director
- Comply with all OSHA and safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe practices or accidents to supervisor, Safety Supervisor and/or OSHA Coordinator
- Will be compliant with the relevant regulations concerning the privacy and security of consumer’s protected health information (PHI) as established by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skills

- A mental health professional with specialized training in crisis intervention with a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field (counseling, psychology or social work)
