Austin Child Guidance Center (ACGC) is a leader in trauma-informed care for children in the Austin area. For over 70 years, the Center has provided high quality mental health services to children and families here in Austin. ACGC’s mission is to provide accessible, high quality mental health services to children and their families empowering them to thrive in childhood and beyond.

To support families with complex issues, ACGC uses the latest evidence-based approaches to trauma-informed early intervention, diagnosis and treatment. A multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, family therapists and professional counselors provides individual, family and group therapy; psychological services; parental education; presentations and community consultation; and training for current and future mental health professionals. The Center is committed to increasing access to quality care for all children and families.

Position Title: Psychologist (Contractual)

Department: Psychology

Reports To: Senior Director of Programs

Position(s) Supervised: None

Required Language(s): English; Spanish preferred

Hourly Rate: to be negotiated based on experience

Role Summary: The Psychologist is responsible for providing psychological assessment services to children and adolescents and their families.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an APA-accredited university training program

Licensure as Psychologist in state of Texas

At least one to four years’ experience, including postdoctoral fellowship

Demonstrated clinical skills in child/adolescent assessment and intervention

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work approximately 20-30 hours per week

Provides psychological assessments

Conducts initial evaluation sessions which include evaluations, diagnosis and treatment planning, and risk assessment

Completes all agency documentation requirements in a timely manner

Adheres to agency Policy and Procedures

Collaborates and coordinates with relevant community health persons, organizations, and agencies

Attends required agency meetings (i.e., Psychology Team meetings and other meetings as defined by the Senior Director of Programs)

Furthers the mission of Austin Child Guidance Center through active support of strategic goals

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in assessment procedures related to evaluation of autism-spectrum disorder

Proficiency in assessment procedures related to evaluation of young children

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Safety—Adheres to state and agency standards related to client and staff safety, including HIPAA compliance, mandated reporting, and screening for suicidality. Implements strategies to enhance safety including safety planning, providing appropriate referrals, and staffing cases with supervisors.

Spanish Language Skills—Possesses advanced verbal, written, reading and comprehension skills in Spanish, which includes specialized clinical language needed to conduct outpatient mental health services. Applicant’s level of proficiency will be evaluated using a bilingual skills assessment and verbal interview.
