About Us

Action Family Counseling is a leading provider of outpatient substance use and mental health treatment services in Los Angeles County. We are currently seeking a compassionate, motivated, and certified Substance Abuse Counselor for our Santa Clarita location. This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of Drug Medi-Cal (DMC) requirements and a passion for helping individuals in recovery.

What You'll Do

• Conduct DMC-compliant intake assessments, including ASAM evaluations and verifying medical necessity.
• Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions for clients with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
• Develop and update individualized treatment plans based on ASAM criteria.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Sage system (or similar EHR).
• Collaborate with clinical and medical team members to coordinate care.
• Participate in case conferences, trainings, and staff meetings.
• Administer drug tests and report results in accordance with policy.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and all state and county documentation standards.

What We're Looking For. We welcome applicants with any of the following active certifications or licenses in the State of California:

• Certified SUD Counselor: CADC, CADE, CATC, or equivalent
• Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA): LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, PsyD, or similar
• Master’s-Level Clinician: MSW, MA in Counseling, or equivalent with registration toward licensure
• Experience with DMC programs in Los Angeles County – strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of ASAM criteria, DMC documentation, and Medi-Cal billing standards.
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with Sage or similar electronic health record (EHR) systems is a plus.
