Position Overview:

Requirements for this position are as follows:

Title: Substance Abuse Counselor

Location: Bakersfield Clinic

Schedule: Monday - Friday from 5:00 am - 1:30 pm

Responsibilities:
The SUD counselor must be certified and/or registered by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs. To best treat the needs of the patient, the SUD counselor collaborates with the clinical team consisting of the receptionist, MA, dispensing nurse, and NTP Program Doctor. The SUD counselor with the clinical team provides comprehensive screening and assessment, works together with the team to complete the intake process, provides individual and group counseling, and case management.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Positive attitude with patient and staff relations

· Collaborate and perform tasks as part of the intake and individual treatment plan teams

· Complete comprehensive assessment

· Complete interpretive summary

· Provide individual and group counseling including follow-up

· Maintain patient records both electronic and paper

· Perform duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Clinic Manager

· Adhere to all Federal, State, County, Accreditation, and Program regulations

· Attend and complete trainings assigned by compliance analyst

· Attend all required staff meetings

· Actively learn and use software associated with clinic programs to tract and enter services

· Other duties assigned by the Program Director, Supervisor, Compliance Analysist

The duties and responsibilities are intended to be a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by the SUD Counselor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Interpersonal skills – Focuses on solving conflict, not blaming: maintains confidentiality, listens to others without interruption: keeps emotions under control; remains open to others’ ideas and tries new things.

· Organizational Support – Follows policies and procedures; completes SUD counselor tasks correctly and on time; supports organization’s goals and values; supports affirmative action and respects diversity.

· Planning/Organizing – Prioritizes and plans work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources; sets goals and objectives; organizes or schedules tasks; develops realistic action plans.

· Attendance/Punctuality – is consistently at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent, arrives at meetings and appointments on time. Follows employee handbook instructions for breaks, lunches, and absences.

· Deescalating techniques – is experienced using deescalating techniques in individual and group settings.

Qualifications

· High School Diploma or GED

· Substance Abuse Certified Counseling Certification (Required) through an accredited institution such as CCAPP or CAADE

· Addiction counseling experience: minimum 1 year (required)

· Positive Attitude and Desire to help others as a health / essential care worker
