Responsibilities:
- Functions as Peer Support Specialist for returning citizens who are being released from the Lancaster County Prison. All reentering individuals will identify as having dealt with a substance use disorder
- Must be able to work with inmates pre-release inside the prison to prepare needs assessments and goal plans.
- Will work with prison reentry team to prepare inmate for release and walk through the process of release into the community where support and referral can take place.
- Must utilize personal lived experience to support and guide individuals as they establish themselves in the community
- Develop/ implement Recovery Plans for clients based on their specific needs and goals
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as Adult Probation, Community Social Services, and Drug & Alcohol Treatment and Recovery services
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to engage clients in the recovery process
- Provide education and support to clients' families and caregivers
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records
- Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing mental health or behavioral health issues and refer to the appropriate clinical or professional resources
- Completes and maintains security training for the Lancaster County Prison and can successfully complete a background screening.
Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain clearances from PA State Police to navigate unescorted in the Lancaster County Prison. Must be willing to disclose ALL past charges. May not have ANY open charges and MUST be off probation for at least 1 year.
- Must be able to supply professional letters of support/reference from a minimum of 3 sources.
- Must have or agree to obtain a PA State Certified Recovery Specialist designation within 1 year of hire
- MUST have substantive experience in the field of substance use recovery. Preferences will be given to people in recovery who also have experience in the corrections system.
- Must understand medication-assisted recovery, including suboxone, Subutex, Sublocaid, and methadone treatment and must be able to provide supportive services in an unbiased manner that respects individual choice.
- Strong understanding of behavioral health issues and treatment modalities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; must have ability to work and communicate effectively on a team working in a very challenging environment.
- Familiarity with community resources and referral networks
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines
- Must have a strong personal support system in place and be able to demonstrate active self-care, boundaries and ethical standards.
- Desirable that the applicant has a strong optimistic and positive disposition.
- Must have a valid PA Driver’s License

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
