Position Title: School Counselor

Summary: The role of the School Counselor is to provide social, emotional, and/or academic counseling to students in need. The School Counselor will run short term individual or group counseling to work on specific needs of students. The School Counselor will be the Case Manager for students with 504s. This position requires a high degree of responsibility, discretion, independent judgment and confidentiality.

Qualifications:

• Masters degree in school counseling from an accredited college or university is required.
• New Jersey/New York State Certification for School Counselor
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
• Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters.

Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:

• Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense in accordance with EDN Section 2854 (a-2).
• Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with EDN Section 2854 (a-2).
• Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test.
• A valid driver’s license is preferred.
• Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO finds appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities:

The School Counselor shall:

• The School Counselor is responsible for upholding the mission and vision of iLearn Schools, supporting administrative decisions, and assisting with the charter school renewal process. The counselor must act with the highest ethical standards when working with students, parents, and staff, and stay current through professional development. They are required to adhere to all federal, state, and school regulations, including promptly reporting any signs of substance abuse, child abuse, or other severe conditions. Additional duties include maintaining the confidentiality of student and staff records, using professional communication in all forms, assisting with data collection for reports, understanding the school's emergency plan, and attending school-sponsored events. They will also perform any other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month employee

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with New Jersey state law (Title 18A) and the provisions of the iLearn Schools policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
