Contract Art Therapist in Bronx Schools (1-2 full days)

The Art Therapy Project is a nonprofit providing group art therapy in a safe inclusive space for people in need of mental health services. Clients feel connected and inspired while exploring their personal journeys, increasing their self-awareness, and improving their quality of life.

We are looking for one or two Contract Art Therapists to place in a school setting in the Bronx, near Yankee Stadium. In collaboration with a community partner, the Contract Art Therapist(s) will work with middle and high school youth, offering group art therapy to students, and potentially families and school staff. The Contract Art Therapist will represent The Art Therapy Project and run the groups at the Bronx campus. Previous experience with this age group and setting is a plus, being bilingual Spanish-speaking is preferred. This contract is for 20 weeks, running from late October through April, with the hope of extending the program. Two full days a week are available, preferably a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. The rate of pay is $600 per day, for an 8-hour shift.

In addition to running the group the Contract Art Therapist is responsible for:

  • Group preparation
  • Evaluating client needs and setting appropriate group goals
  • Management of on-site space, supplies and storage
  • Completion of paperwork including progress notes, attendance and assessments
  • Communicating with Clinical Director about group progress and engaging in supervision
  • Communicating with partner site about acute needs
  • Maintaining certification, licensure and personal liability insurance
  • Other duties as assigned

The Contract Art Therapist may have opportunities for leading additional ongoing groups and assisting with events as needed.

Qualifications & Skills Required: MPS/MA Art Therapy; ATR-BC, LCAT required.
Minimum two years post-graduate experience providing clinical Art Therapy services to consumers. Proof of certification, licensure and personal liability insurance required.

This work is Part Time on a contract basis, Compensation: $600/ day (8-hour shift).
