Are you passionate about supporting victims of domestic violence while

excelling in administrative tasks? The City of Wichitas Law Department

is seeking a Domestic Violence Victim Advocate to provide essential

support to victims as their cases move through Municipal Court. Under

the supervision of the Chief Deputy City Attorney, you\'ll offer

emotional support, accompany victims during court proceedings, and

connect them with critical resources like compensation applications and

transportation. In addition to direct victim support, you\'ll manage

case files, ensure timely notifications, and collaborate with

prosecutors and court staff, all while handling sensitive information

with professionalism and care. This role combines meaningful, hands-on

victim assistance with key administrative duties, making for a rewarding

and impactful work environment.

**Examples of Work Performed**

  • Personally interviews and contacts domestic violence victims by

telephone.

  • Accompanies domestic violence victims during court proceedings.
  • Provides information and referrals to community resources and

assists with applications for victim compensation if needed.

  • Assists domestic violence victims in obtaining emergency

transportation enabling them to participate in the criminal justice

system.

  • Assists domestic violence victims in understanding their role in the

criminal justice system.

  • Identifies and tracks all required case related victim/witness

information.

  • Ensures all notification letters are generated and distributed

within specified time periods.

  • Receives, compiles and documents restitution due and owing in all

applicable cases.

  • May use electronic spreadsheets for tracking case information.
  • Compose letters providing information or requesting information.
  • Responsible for compiling grant reports and other statistical

information.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintains program or project information data base or files.

**Requirements of Work**

  • Considerable knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques.
  • Ability to understand and maintain the confidentiality requirements

of criminal investigation records.

  • Ability to maintain appropriate and professional boundaries in

workplace, in particular in interactions with victims.

  • Considerable knowledge of social services agencies in the community.
  • Ability to gather facts and organize them into verbal and written

reports.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with

prosecutors, attorneys, court staff and the public.

  • Ability to remain sensitive to and supportive of victims.
  • Knowledge of standard computer keyboard configuration and ability to

access, interpret, and record information through use of a video

display terminal and electronic keyboard.

  • Attend annual Kansas Victim Assistance Association training.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to engage in, use of computer keyboard and

video display monitor in electronic spreadsheet development, using

basic mathematical and descriptive statistical operations.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Ability to compose routine letters.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop charts and graphs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of the criminal and civil court systems.
  • Timely completion all required documents to insu e VOCA grant

compliance.

  • Gathers and compiles budget, payroll and/or other financial data.
  • Composes responses to routine correspondence.
  • Maintains Spreadsheets for voicemails, victim information sheets,

statistics, budget and other reports.

  • Complete victim interviews while in court, and incoming

victims/witnesses.

  • Assist prosecutors with providing information for personal service

to Restitution clerk for PS subpoenas to be sent out.

  • Ensure translators are ordered for cases needing translation

services

  • An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety

of other individuals in the workplace.
