Job Title: Mental Health Counselor – Psychiatric

Duration: 13 Weeks (10/06/2025 – 01/03/2026) | May Be Extended
Shift: 32 Hours/Week | Day Shift (07:30 AM – 04:00 PM)
Schedule Example: Tues 3p–11p, Fri double shift 3p–7a, Sat 3p–11p (Schedule subject to adjustment)
About the Role:
Join a highly respected behavioral health team at Beth Israel Lahey Health as a Mental Health Counselor – Psychiatric in a fast-paced emergency services environment. This contractual opportunity offers meaningful work, helping individuals in crisis while contributing to the delivery of high-quality mental health care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform initial mental health assessments and triage incoming calls.
- Prioritize clinician and resource utilization to deliver appropriate care.
- Serve as liaison between patients, clinicians, and related systems.
- Assist with insurance verifications, bed searches, and resource coordination.
- Monitor active and pending cases, documenting accurately in records.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, clinicians, and regulatory bodies.
- Provide feedback to the Program Director on shift performance and system improvements.
- Maintain compliance with safety protocols and facility standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or related field (required).
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in a mental health or psychiatric counseling setting.
- Current BLS (AHA) certification.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required.
- Strong communication, analytical, and documentation skills.
- Ability to triage calls, manage multiple priorities, and respond to regulatory inquiries.
- Physically able to perform tasks such as walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
Additional Requirements:
- Must provide a BILH coversheet at time of submission.
- Flu shot required prior to start (season starts 09/02).
- Not eligible if affiliated with BILH in the last 6 months (per diem, perm, or travel).
