ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH URGENT CARE CENTER

Job Summary

Under the clinical direction of the Chief of Psychiatry, provides timely, patient-centered psychiatric care to individuals experiencing acute mental health and substance use crises In a Behavioral Health Urgent Care setting. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will conduct psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, initiate or adjust psychotropic medications, and coordinate care for patents across the lifespan. This role emphasizes crisis stabilization, rapid access to care, and seamless referral to ongoing mental health services. The NP will use evidence-based practice and trauma-informed care to support individuals in distress while ensuring safety and continuity of care.

Job Qualifications

  • Must have a Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing and valid Ohio license
  • Must have a current, full, active, and unrestricted license, or otherwise recognized, as an Adult Nurse Practitioner
  • Must have current, full, active certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.]
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license
  • Must work within a Standard Care Arrangement.
  • May be required to travel between sites as necessary

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs psychiatric evaluations for individuals experiencing urgent behavioral health needs with attention to cultural competence, trauma-informed care, and social determinants of health.
  • Diagnoses, treats acute mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders in a community-based urgent care environment.
  • Initiates and manages psychotropic medications, monitor response to treatment, and adjust as needed per clinical guidelines and state scope of practice.
  • Collaborates closely with an integrated care team, including primary care providers, behavioral health clinicians, case managers, and community outreach workers.
  • Completes clinical work tasks during work hours each day.
  • Provides crisis intervention and stabilization, including risk assessments (suicide, homicide, psychosis) and coordination of emergency services or hospitalization when necessary.
  • Provides assistance and direction to agency staff in establishing treatment/service plans, as needed. Knows and utilizes system resources. Identifies system limitations and problem solves to meet client needs.
  • Educates patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and resources available within the community and health center.
  • Maintains medical charts, records and documentation in accordance with standard nursing practice and agency policies.
  • Participates in case review, quality improvement projects, and team huddles to improve access to outcomes in behavioral health urgent care services.
  • Render care to patients in accordance with quality and standards, the standards of care prevailing in the community, applicable law, and according to state and federal grant requirements for non-discrimination regardless of status, race, sex, religion, national origin, handicap, age, or ability to pay.
