Job Summary
The Department of Psychology and Counseling at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for one Assistant Professor of Psychology position to start Fall 2026. This is a full-time position with a nine-month academic year appointment in the Department of Psychology and Counseling within the College of Education and Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler. The new Assistant Professor will teach courses and supervise research in our Undergraduate Psychology program and contribute to our master's and doctoral program in Clinical Psychology.
Screening of applicants will begin in early April and continue until the position is filled. We would like this new faculty member to join our faculty September 1, 2026.
Essential Functions
Candidates should be prepared to teach courses at the Undergraduate and master's level in the areas of developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, introduction to psychology, and other courses related to the candidate's area of expertise. The assistant professor must also maintain an active research agenda, preferably incorporating undergraduate-level students. They will also be expected to work collaboratively with department and college colleagues on service endeavors. The Department of Psychology and Counseling welcomes applicants who bring a range of experiences, perspectives, and skills to our program, and we encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply.
Our program represents different specializations, including Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Quantitative Methods, and Social Psychology. Candidates will mentor undergraduate students in research and will be expected to assist with committees for graduate students in their thesis or dissertation work. They will also be expected to pursue external funding opportunities and must meet UT Tyler requirements for the rank of Assistant Professor.
Required Qualifications
- Earned PhD in Psychology.
- Candidates should also provide evidence of strong research and interpersonal skills and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
- Preference will be given to those with an earned PhD in the areas of cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, or behavioral neuroscience, candidates with a record of research and scholarship, including external funding, and both undergraduate and graduate teaching experience.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
