About Job

SUMMARY: Participates in an on-call schedule to provide crisis intervention to clients, assessing for inpatient mental health hospitalization. Crisis services are provided within the community, on-site of the crisis.

For on-call shifts, the After-Hours Counselor must provide on-site assessment within 60 minutes. PCH is centralized in Berwyn, but staff travel north up to Oak Park, East to Cicero, South to Justice and West to La Grange. Most assessments on the weekend are at one of our 4 Emergency Rooms: West Suburban, Rush Oak Park, LaGrange Memorial and MacNeal.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide crisis intervention services in person or by telephone to police, school and hospital personnel, and community residents dealing with crisis situations. This includes referrals as well as diagnostic assessment and crisis intervention services.
  • Provide on-site assessment within 60 minutes.
  • Conduct emergency on-site assessments of clients to determine the need for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization.
  • Assess and stabilize high risk individuals and/or families.
  • Completes required documentation and maintains records in accordance with PCH policies and procedures.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and completes all required training requirements.
  • Meets with supervisor at least once per month to discuss crisis situations. Supervisors are available to consult during on call shifts to debrief, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or related degree. Related experience should include work with adults, children and adolescents, crisis intervention, assessment, case management, brief treatment, and home and community-based interventions. Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with consumers, referrals sources, and other community providers is absolutely essential.


LANGUAGE

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.


OTHER

Must maintain a safe driving record and have current valid Illinois Driver's License. Personal vehicle needed for travel to/from community-based interventions. Response requirements per our service contract require response periods to be within 60 minutes. Reliable transportation is necessary for responding to crisis calls in a timely manner Mileage for authorized work-related purposes is reimbursable.


SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS

Shifts which include:

Weeknights: Monday through Thursday 7PM to 7AM.

Weekends: Friday 5PM to 9PM, 5 PM-7 AM, and 7PM-7AM; Saturday: 7 AM- 7 PM and 7 PM 7 AM;

Sunday: 7AM-7PM and 7PM-7AM.

Holidays: Required to cover at least 2 Holiday shifts per year


Expectations for monthly scheduling:

Availability for the upcoming month must be submitted by the 5th of each month (Ex: the calendar for the month of August must be submitted by July 5th)

  • Each staff must provide 15-20 shift options
  • Shift availability must be distributed throughout the month
  • Shift availability must include weekday and weekend shifts

The calendar is published the 15th of the current month, and the employee is responsible for reviewing the calendar and reporting any issues within 3 business days


PAYBENEFIT INFORMATION

Regular rate of pay: $25.25 per hour

  • The regular rate is for training, meetings, documentation, and response to calls through 9 pm.

After Hours Response Rate: $37.88 per hour

  • The response rate is for after-hours calls in the evening after 9 pm and on weekend shifts
