Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in addiction counseling and mental health support, with the ability to provide individual and group therapy to clients struggling with substance use disorders. This role requires a commitment to helping clients achieve recovery through evidence-based practices and therapeutic techniques.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and intake evaluations for clients seeking substance abuse treatment.
- Develop personalized treatment plans based on individual needs, incorporating psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention strategies.
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy and behavioral therapy to promote recovery.
- Provide crisis management support to clients in distress, ensuring safety and appropriate interventions are implemented.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care, including home and community care services, hospital resources, and family involvement.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including patient assessments, medical records, and diagnostic evaluations.
- Engage in ongoing research and data collection to enhance treatment methodologies and improve patient outcomes.
- Offer support for PTSD care and other co-occurring mental health issues as part of a holistic approach to addiction treatment.
- Participate in case management activities to ensure continuity of care for clients throughout their recovery journey.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred; relevant certifications in addiction counseling or behavioral health are highly desirable.
- Proven experience in substance abuse counseling, crisis intervention, and mental health counseling.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, and medical documentation practices.
- Strong skills in patient care, assessment, case management, and behavior management techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also demonstrating independence when necessary.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.

Pay: $25.89 - $31.18 per hour
