Job Title-Assistant Director of Counseling, Assessment and Accountability

Supervisor: Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning

Job Goals:

  • To assist with coordinating and providing leadership, supervision, and support for all school counseling and mental health programs, district-wide school improvement efforts, and state mandated student assessment programs.

  • To assist school and system leaders in identifying and removing barriers to learning for all students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited university or college.
  • Valid Alabama Professional Educator’s Certificate or a valid Alabama certification in Educational leadership, administration, and/or supervision, school counseling.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in public education, including experience in assessment, accountability, school improvement, and school counseling.
  • Minimum of two (2) years successful administrator experience (school or district level).
  • Knowledge of the state mandated student assessment and accountability program.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of educational guidance, child growth and development theory, educational testing and measurement, counseling, and the administration of guidance services.
  • Knowledge in the use of data to facilitate school improvement efforts.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Superior leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and ability to be an instructional leader across multiple settings and to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication with the ability to produce and lead presentations through various data sources.
  • Ability to multitask, to delegate appropriately, and to effectively prioritize tasks and assignments.
  • Physical strength, stamina, dexterity, and acuity to perform essential job functions and responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Supervises the state-mandated student assessment program.
  • Supervises the training of school administrators and building test coordinators regarding test administration, security procedures, scheduling, and the analysis of assessment data.
  • Supervises the dissemination and collection of all testing materials and supplies.
  • Collaborates with district leaders and professional staff to communicate assessment results.
  • Collaborates with district leaders and professional staff to ensure appropriate assessment of all students, including students with disabilities and ESL students.
  • Assist with coordination and supervising all school counseling related services and programs.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets academic data to identify areas of improvement.
  • Collaborate with school counselors to develop and implement effective counseling strategies and interventions for all students.
  • Assist the Director in overseeing the counseling program and ensuring alignment with district goals and state standards.
  • Monitors compliance with legal and ethical standards in counseling practices.
  • Assist with supervising the school counseling program.
  • Assist with evaluation the effectiveness of the school counseling program and recommends changes for improvement as needed.
  • Assist Supervises the school-based mental health program.
  • Works with the Mental Health Services Coordinator to develop and offer support for students in need of academic, behavioral, or mental health support.
  • Assist with identifying and collaborating with community partners and mental health providers to supplement the services of the school-based mental health program.
  • Serves as a member of the district MTSS team, and provides support for MTSS implementation in all schools.
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for counselors and staff related to counseling practices and student support.
  • Provide leadership in the areas of assessment and accountability related to student counseling services.
  • Advocate for the needs of students and families within the district.
  • Represents the system at professional meetings.
  • Plans, manages, and supports all budgets related to assigned departments.
  • Demonstrates the ability to multitask, to delegate appropriately, and to prioritize tasks and assignments.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Participates successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
  • Efficiently uses time and conserves system resources.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
