About Job

The ACCS Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing daily monitoring and support to clients admitted to the ACCS. The Mental Health Counselor will also work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, to provide immediate short-term support to individuals suffering from an acute psychiatric episode.

AVAILABLE SHIFTS: Monday 3rd shift, Tuesday 2nd & 3rd shift, Wednesday 1st shift, Friday 1st shift

$1 per hour Language Differential! (eligible languages include: Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish or ASL)

Compensation is determined by factors to include evaluating internal equity, individual experience and job value, and aligning with current external market pay to ensure fairness and competitiveness.

Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Participates in treatment planning under the direction of clinical and nursing staff
  • Participate in discharge planning by identifying needed referrals and completing them
  • Maintains client confidentiality at all times
  • Assist in assessment of client behavior
  • Run both activity and therapeutic groups during their shift
  • Assist in both the admission and discharge process
  • Records progress notes in client’s charts every shift
  • Assist clients in activities of daily living, as necessary
  • Assist in meal preparation
  • Help client in filling out MBY/Disability forms
  • Provide daily upkeep to the unit
  • Ability to move quickly in responding to emergencies
  • Cross-trained in the policies, procedures and working with youth on YCCS to assist as needed with programmatic needs

All 24-hour/Acute Care program staff are considered essential. Essential staff is defined as personnel who are expected to report to work as scheduled, regardless of holidays and/or during any emergency situation and/or agency closing (i.e., inclement weather) to ensure the ongoing operations of the program.

Due to the type of work and client needs, this position may need to work beyond a forty-hour work week. Additionally, essential staff may be required to remain on shift or work an additional shift until relief staff is available.

For overnight positions, staff are required to stay awake for the entirety of their shift.

Required Education and Experience

A completed Bachelor’s degree or High School diploma required. Experience providing milieu support to adults preferred. A certification as a Peer Specialist and/or Recovery Coach highly encouraged.
