Position Summary:
The Behavior Interventionist Paraeducator supports students with behavioral, emotional, or social challenges by assisting in the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). This position works under the direct supervision of a Special Education Teacher and the Special Education Director to promote student success, independence, and positive behavior in the school environment. The paraeducator may also provide instructional and behavioral support within PreK–5 classrooms as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist students with behavioral challenges by implementing BIPs and providing appropriate behavioral supports.
- Engage in restorative conversations (problem-solving) with students as directed by the Special Education Teacher or Director.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students at all times.
- Provide non-contingent breaks for students with identified needs.
- Support data collection for BIP implementation and daily behavioral point sheets.
- Monitor student behavior and provide timely feedback to teachers and administrators.
- Document behaviors using the school's office referral system.
- Support classroom instructional activities (e.g., We Thinkers) at the PreK–2 level.
- Participate in school activities, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Follow verbal and written instructions and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information at all times.
- Build and maintain positive relationships within the school and broader community.
- Demonstrate effective communication, organization, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
