About Job

Midnight Detention Counselor for Juveniles - Pittsburgh

Adelphoi Western Region – Highland Detention at Shuman

A local non-profit with a 50-year history of supporting young people in crisis seeks to build a team of people committed to assist our communities with youth who need immediate intervention. This will be an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new approach helping kids with challenges. The jobs will require working in a secure setting on a daily basis, and provide the safety that these youth and their communities deserve.

What will you be asked to do?

  • Work with local law enforcement officials, and juvenile authorities assisting youth with their urgent shelter needs while longer-term treatment interventions are prepared.

  • Act as a point of first contact to explain to youth their situation, set roles and expectations as they enter into the program, and provide for their immediate needs.

  • Sustain a group environment based on safety, security, and trust that enables an orderly and consistent routine in directing youth behavior.

  • Complete a rigorous training program that will prepare you to build relationships with boundaries, address youth behaviors, and maintain healthy living arrangements.

What will qualify you for these opportunities?

  • The ability to demonstrate clear 1:1 communication, establish rapport with youth, and follow a strict routine that maximizes the stability of the living environment.

  • A level of fitness that permits assisting with the physical care and safety of individuals and groups for the benefit of all program members.

  • A minimum level of study that indicates the capacity to understand and apply regulations as they pertain to the secure setting. Minimum of 60 college credits required.

These positions come with competitive rates of pay starting @ $20.00hr with full benefits (medical, dental, vision and more), generous paid time off, and a 403(b) company matching retirement savings plan. Fully paid training and advancement opportunities are available as you demonstrate your ability to apply the corrective behaviors and processes required by the program. In our approach to employees, you are able to create your own promotions as you grow!
