Guidance Counselor Job Description:
New Dawn Charter High School seeks a dedicated Guidance Counselor to support our over-aged and under-credited students (ages 15-21), including English Language Learners and students with special needs, in obtaining their high school diplomas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist students in developing career plans through the Bridges program.
- Maintain a list of graduating seniors and coordinate college/career fairs and trips.
- Schedule students for classes and help complete FAFSA applications.
- Support students with college and vocational applications, career identification, and professional resume development.
- Ensure all students graduate with a career or college plan.
- Create lesson plans, administer assessments, and collaborate with teachers during planning.
- Use data to inform instruction and stay late on Regents' exam days as needed.
- Track student attendance, call mentees, and follow up on absences.
- Attend professional development sessions and use prep time effectively.
- Report to the direct supervisor and Executive Director, working cooperatively with faculty, staff, and administration.
Requirements:
- Graduate degree in Counseling Services.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to student success and professional development.
